For Jacques Newashish, the symbolic territory of works of
art must unfold its wings in the imagination of each and every
one and take root. His painting can be seen as a meditation
on the future of our planet.

First Nations Artists
in France
|
From the 5th to the 11th of December, 2002,
LAND InSIGHTS erected four totemic masts on the Lacroix
Laval site, near Lyon, during the Jacques Cartier Dialogues.
Mr Jean-Jacques Lincourt, director of the Montreal Botanical
Gardens, was one of the lecturers invited to this annual
conference. Following the successful partnership developed
between LAND InSIGHTS and the Montreal Botanical Gardens,
Mr Lincourt put forth the idea that an installation of four
totemic masts by artists Virginia Pésémapéo
Bordeleau, Christine Sioui and Jacques Néwashish
could bring his presentation to life. The artists inscribed
the marks of the Cree, Abenaki and Atiamekw nations in the
French soil. LAND InSIGHTS could not hope for a better example
of mutual understanding reached between satisfied partners.

Land
InSIGHTS goes to Cégep
|
|
Land InSIGHTS held a booth at the intercultural
event, La quinzaine des cultures at Cégep du Vieux-Montréal,
on February 27th and 28th. This activity was an opportunity
for many discussions and exchanges between the Cégep students
and the Land InSIGHTS representative, Lysanne Obomsawin, from
the Abenaki nation. We could see that there was a keen interest
in discovering the differences among the different First Nations
in Quebec and the land claims that are now making the headlines.
