Elisapee Isaac will present her film Si le temps le permet at the 4th Off-Courts festival in Trouville, Normandy. This short subject, produced in the NFB training programme for aboriginal filmmakers, was awarded the Rigoberta Menchú Grand Prize during First Peoples' Festival 2003. Sheueu by Mario Bacon will round out this screening.

This participation by Quebec Aboriginal filmmakers in a festival with a breath of sea air in its sails was part of a carte blanche invitation extended to Land Insights. A way of observing the 400th anniversary of Champlain's arrival in Nitassinan and harking back to subsequent alliances.

Just as in the 18th Century, Amerindian craftspeople and traders joined in public events on the edge of the old Montreal colony.

Porcupine quill embroidery, woven sweetgrass, wood and stone sculpture are some of the traditional art forms showcased in the open air so we can see how they are done. And of course, there was Iroquois traditional song and dance.

As Land Insights organises and lends its support to the Amerindian presence at this seasonal fair, this continues the partnership begun in 2002, during the commemoration of the 1701 Great Peace of Montreal. During that event, Pointe-à-Callière, in charge of organising a public marketplace, worked alongside with Land Insights to organise the celebrations observing the Tercentenary of this peace treaty.
